New Year, New Beauty: 4 Makeup Trends to Try in 2022

A new year mostly introduces new great resolutions, new habits, and objectives; why not use this as an incentive to start something different with your beauty regimen?

Modifying your beauty routine may not be at the top list of New Year’s resolutions, but as we approach 2022, there’s no great time than the current time to strike reset and try something (a little!) new. Here are 4 makeup trends you should try right now.

4 Popular fashion Makeup Looks to Pursue in 2022

  • Impact on top of the mask, natural on the bottom

Our makeup has been a little different since we bought a mask nearly two years ago. New balms and creams, glosses, and lip oils continue to hit the market, but you may find yourself gravitating toward more velvet and satin formulas — something transfer-proof. So, for this look, keep the area beneath the mask more matte and natural (think powder formulas and setting sprays) and focus on the eyes and high points of your cheeks.

Put on a lot of mascara, and don’t be frightened to fluff up your brows. Apply blush above that your mask will linger on your face, straight under where you might normally implement highlighter, just on the tops of the cheeks.

·         Rounded and dagger graphic liner

Now we love the big black-winged liner, but I’m rusty, and, more recently, I was completely skipping it. However, the “dagger” eyeliner caught me and became a strong, lazy favorite. You can get inspiration directly on the SS22 runways and make a sharp black wing or smoke out.

Try rounded eyeliner for a different graphic liner look. You may do whatever you desire with this, using any color or shade you want and drawing around line anywhere you want on your eyes. Try painting with pencil eyeliner first if you are new to the look. We also suggest leaving your doors blank; easy to clean any blemishes. Use your favorite eyeliner (powder, pencil, and liquid – whatever formula you wish for!) Draw a thin line from your lash line below, and then paint over your natural crease. Play with it; every eye is different, and you will see what is best for you.

·         PANTONE 17-3938 Very Periwinkle Pantone Color of the Year 2022: PANTONE 17-3938 Very Periwinkle

Speaking of blue and purple eye shadow, what better way to bring a New Year than the color Pantone of the Year 2022, PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri. The intricate part of this color hunts for a less purple or very blue product is the blue periwinkle with a low violet-red tone. Don’t worry – we’ve done the job. In the eyes, the Da Ba Dee shade on ColourPop’s Blue Moon pallet is a perfect periwinkle. Shade B2 of Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina Pro Pigment Pallet Vol. 2 ideal colors for a top palette option.

And, if you’re feeling brave, Fenty Beauty’s Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick in Ya Dig?! It is a unique product — periwinkle lipstick!

·         Ice-cold Y2K vibes

It’s hard to believe we’re far enough away from the early 2000s that it’s time to revisit the season, but with some fashion trends making a comeback (low-rise jeans, butterflies everywhere), it shouldn’t surprise us that the cold blue eye shadow to shout Y2K is back, too.

We loved the brilliance of the blue interior corner made of Lanvin SS22 (courtesy of Make Up Forever and makeup artist Diane Kendal), as well as the mint eyes with a lid made of Giorgio Armani SS22. Or try covering your entire top with a shade by first using a pastel shade as your base and then filling it with a cool tone. We love Huda Beauty’s Matte & Metal Melted Double Ended Liquid Eye shadow with Minted and Dinero colors for this.
